You, Do Something About It!

Now Elijah the Tishbite, of Tishbe, in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.”.—1 Kings 17:1, NRSV

You see what’s wrong with the world. Not only do you see it, but you are angered and saddened by it.  You try to avoid media outlets because you are sick and tired of division and drama. You can’t hear or read one more bit of bad news. It does not matter whether it’s about the nation, your job, and/or your intimate relationships,  you are a maxed and taxed out.

Perhaps you need to pray about it. Ask God to give you strength and focus, and to do something about all of the dumb and destructive things the powers that be do in your world. When you do, however, don’t be surprised if God says to you, through some medium of revelation (contemplative prayer, reflective scripture reading, or a casual conversation), you are the answer to your prayer and the world’s. Like Elijah, God has given you the passion, purpose, and power to confront individuals and institutions, putting the power that be on notice, they must do right or things, says, God will begin to go left.

Two Questions:

1. What change will God need to make in you, and, in turn, you in your life, so you might be used to confront the evil, unfairness, and drama in our world?

2. Which cause do you believe God might be calling you to take on with others and him, not by yourself?  If you’re not certain, think and pray about it, then God will make it clear to you.
